Ym Mhontypridd mae 'Nghariad - Emyr Gibson + Carys Owen
To celebrate the visit of the National Eisteddfod to Pontypridd this year, Recordiau Aran is releasing two versions of the arrangement of this iconic folk tune on July 5th 2024.
The original version of this recording was prepared for Emyr Gibson for the record that was released together with his sister Siân Wyn Gibson called 'Perthyn'.
Then a year later Carys Owen, one of the composers of the arrangement prepared an instrumental version for 'Y Briodas Gymreig'. This CD is a collection of pieces suitable for use during a wedding ceremony and contains a large variety of music performed by either Carys or the organist Huw Williams.
Energy and enthusiasm fill these records. A number of traditional and acoustic instruments are heard such as the harp, violin, pipe, bodhran, guitar and mandolin. But the rich rhythms and harmonies are much more modern. Just as the Eisteddfod respects its tradition while trying to recognize popular, contemporary culture.
